Hannah Mae Halloween

Big Cat!

This is my Hannah Mae’s Halloween costume for this year.  We ended up calling it a cheetah costume, after several jaguar and leopard discussions too.  Jaguar seemed to be in the lead for a little while, but then cheetah raced past.  I know, bad joke.  She had a great time looking at and trying on the costume numerous times leading up to today – and we enjoyed seeing her excitement.  Hannah like the bottom photo the best since it showed her claws.  You’ll need to click on it to see it larger.  Happy Halloween.

Bovine Portraits?

During a recent on-location photo session with a wonderful family, we all went for a walk to capture some of the rural scenery.  Along the way, we passed by a pasture with some curious cows, almost seemingly ready to have their portraits made too.  Here are the results – pretty good subjects, huh?

Hannah Mae – 15 Minute Photo Session – Part 2 of 2

This is part 2 of my quick photo session with Hannah Mae.  She’s a natural, and very patient, which makes a 15 minute session possible.  It’s so much fun to capture her growing up too, except it’s just happening way too fast.

Hannah Mae – 15 Minute Photo Session – Part 1 of 2

These portraits of Hannah Mae were taken during a really quick photo session on 9/30/2010.  The temperature was actually a little cool and she was ready to go back inside within five minutes.  She braved it out and we were able to wrap up the fun in 15 minutes.  Stayed tuned for part 2 tomorrow.

Silver Lining

“Every cloud has a silver lining” would be an appropriate description for this image.  I was thinking this exact phrase when I saw the sun beginning to peak through the clouds – along with some blue sky too.  This was the first sunshine after several days of rain.  Then another phrase came to my mind also.  This phrase was from the song “Put on a happy face”, and the part that really stood out in my memory was “Gray skies are going to clear up”.  I looked up the lyrics to the song and have included them below.

I’m so glad that I am able to put on a “happy face” most all the time.  I’m even more glad that I don’t have to “put” it on.  It just seems to come out naturally.  I could probably go on and on about the many things that produce this happiness, but I won’t right now.  There are however a couple of verses from the Bible that come to mind, even though I think I could struggle to remember them during “gray sky” periods.  I pray that I look up when things look down.

Check out  Romans 8:28 or 2 Corinthians 12:9 or Galatians 5:22.  I even did a quick search, and found another that I like – 1 Peter 1:6.

Here are the lyrics to the song:

Gray skies are gonna clear up,
Put on a happy face;
Brush off the clouds and cheer up,
Put on a happy face.

Take off the gloomy mask of tragedy,
It’s not your style;
You’ll look so good that you’ll be glad
Ya’ decide to smile!
Pick out a pleasant outlook,
Stick out that noble chin;
Wipe off that “full of doubt” look,
Slap on a happy grin!
And spread sunshine all over the place,
Just put on a happy face!
Put on a happy face
Put on a happy face

And if you’re feeling cross and bitterish
Don’t sit and whine
Think of banana split and licorice
And you’ll feel fine
I knew a girl so glooming
She’d never laugh or sing
She wouldn’t listen to me
Now she’s a mean old thing
So spread sunshine all over the place
Just put on a happy face
So, put on a happy face

Wilderness Road Scenery

These two photos were taken on June 6, 2010 along Wilderness Road in Bland County, Virginia.  I love driving this road, especially since there’s never any traffic.  Sometimes there will be somebody wanting to speed on through, so I just pull over and let them go.  They sure don’t enjoy the scenery as much as I do.

West Virginia State Capitol Building, Charleston

During our travel back from Cincinnati in July, we stopped by Charleston to capture a few images of the State Capitol Building.  What a beautiful building.
