Virginia Tech – Cassell Coliseum

This was the scene about 90 minutes before Virginia Tech’s game against Georgia Tech on February 9, 2015.  This is a great view of the inside of Cassell Coliseum.  It’s fun to get to a game early and see how different angles of the seats provide interesting views.  This game was a good one to be at also.  Georgia Tech was up by 10 points with under 5 minutes to go, but Virginia Tech kept chipping away at the margin and took the lead with 15 seconds left to play, going on to win by the score of 65-63.

Virginia Tech is a great place for portrait sessions too.

Christiansburg Basketball

This is a photograph of Zach Snell in action during the Virginia Group AA Division 4 State Semi-final game vs Potomac Falls.  It’s an effect that I’ve come up with to highlight sports and portraits combined.   What do you think?

Radford HS Basketball – National Anthem

This image was made during the playing of the National Anthem before the high school basketball game between Radford and Glenvar.  I like the way lights all seem to converge on the players, and the black-and-white makes it look a bit more vintage.  This was taken with a Canon 10-22 mm lens, set at the 10mm setting on my 7d.  The game was on January 13, 2012.

Coach Isiah Thomas

The NIT Pre-season basketball tournament started yesterday, and Virginia Tech hosted the first round games.  Tech played Monmouth in the first game, winning by a score of 91-46.  In the second game, George Mason, led by new coach Paul Hewitt (former coach of Georgia Tech most recently), took on Florida International University.  FIU is coached by NBA Hall of Fame member Isiah Thomas.  It turned out to be a very competitive game, which FIU won 79-76 in overtime.

Hannah Mae’s Basketball Game

My Hannah Mae had her first basketball game of the season this week, on Tuesday (1/19/10).  Here are a few shots of her in the game.  Their team name is the Riverlawn Elementary Extreme Green.  The shirts fit the team name pretty well.

Virginia Tech Basketball – 1

I was able to attend the Virginia Tech basketball game against Charleston Southern University recently, and captured some pretty nice photos.  Here are a couple, and I hope to post a few more later.  The first one is of Malcolm Delaney (#23), and the second one is of Jeff Allen (#0).
