Field of Fog

This corn field just beside the New River was recently cut and allowed the fog to be visible along the ground early yesterday morning.  I think if I would have been there about 30 minutes earlier, the image may have been even more spectacular than this.  This field is on the Montgomery County side of the New River near Fairlawn.  Happy Wednesday to you.

Fog Shrouded Trees

These trees provided just the contrast needed for this foggy evening in Fairlawn, Virginia.  This photo was taken on December 6, 2011.

Foggy Pond Evening

The Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech is situated along the New River in Pulaski County, Virginia.  If you pick any location along the New River, it’s likely that there will be many days where fog is present.  This 6th day of December was such a day.  When I was driving to my house that evening, I noticed that a “strip” of fog was along the New River, and when I got closer to my home, I could just visualize some great photos of the tall trees along the river with completely dense fog behind them.  It would have been a neat photo.  By the time I got inside the house to get my camera, the fog location had already changed and had completely covered the golf course area also.  I decided to go ahead and grab a few photos anyway, and this was one of them.  The location is at the pond along hole #2 looking back toward the tee box.  It turned out pretty good, but was completely different than what it would have been only 10 minutes earlier.  Enjoy.

Super Frosty Morning

This was the setting on a cold December 2nd at the New River.  The frost was incredible!  I wish I could have captured it even better.  I think this frost was hoarfrost – read about it.

Fog on the New River

Fog on the New River

This image is a normal view from my house on most Autumn mornings.  The image was made on October 18, 2011 at 8:30 in the morning.  Although this looks like a black-and-white photograph, it it in full color – there’s just not much color visible though.  Living next to the New River, the fog is often so thick that we can’t tell what the weather is like.  On this particular day, when I drove to the top of the hill leaving my subdivision, it was a bright morning with clear blue skies.  There’s actually the top of a street lamp at the bottom center of the photograph (behind the letters).  I’m a bit surprised that it wasn’t still on.

Winter Fog

This view is COOL, literally!  On my way into work on 2/8/2010, I was marveling at the heavy frost on all the trees.  I turned down a small road hoping to get a close up view of the frost on the field grass, but this is the view that captured my eye.  The temperature was in the low 20’s, and the nearby New River was creating some great fog.  My guess is that the fog was then condensing and freezing on all the vegetation, and the end result was, well….this.
