Night skies are so intriguing…

Gazebo at Ford’s Colony

This is another image made at the gazebo described in the previous post.  This image was made about 30 minutes later, and all of the light from the sunset sky was gone.  The moon was so beautiful that night, and you can even see stars in the sky.  Taken on August 9, 2011.

Full Moon Cloudy Night

This full moon was impressive as it peeked through the clouds on December 12, 2011.

Full Moon + Clouds = Great Scenery

Blue (Sky) Moon

This was the view of the moon from my back yard last night at about 5:45 pm.  What an incredible view it was, and this photo just doesn’t come close to replicating the view.

I love clouds…and the moon.

Super Moon

This was a quick shot of the “Super Moon” on the night of March 19, 2011.  It was a pretty impressive display, but I tend to think almost all full moons are really cool.  This one at least made me go outside and take a photograph of it.  Click on the image to see a larger version of it also.

Lunar Eclipse – Virginia View

Staying up late is not a problem for me, so the time for this lunar event wasn’t a problem for me either.  However, cloud cover was the potential problem for viewing this eclipse.  Below are a series of photos that show the progression of the eclipse from no shadow all the way up until just before the total eclipse.  The shots were tough to get since there were very few openings in the clouds.  After the last shot at 2:19 a.m., there wasn’t another opening for 30 minutes, and that’s when I decided to give up.  I did check outside again around 3:00 a.m., but the clouds were still there.  It was fun to try to capture the images, but a longer lens would have helped.  Hogan and Hannah were excited for a little while, but the hot chocolate at such a late hour was probably more exciting for them.  At least we have a few photos to help remember the time we got to spend together.
